A simple reflection at the time of a funeral

Your funeral director will probably contact the church of your choice to arrange the date and time of your loved one's funeral. Once these arrangements have been made your Vicar will be in touch and come to visit you to discuss the service, to offer support and to pray for you.

Burials can take place in the churchyards at St. Anne's and St. Cuthbert's churches. St. James' churchyard is closed but in Staveley burials can take place in St. Margaret's churchyard in the village. All our churchyards have a special area for the burial of cremated remains and a plaque on which your loved ones name and dates can be engraved.

The Church of England Funerals website offers help and advice on planning a funeral service but the leaflets below may be useful too. The website also offers you the opportunity to light a virtual candle, as a prayer, for the person who has died.

We hold an annual All Souls Service of Thanksgiving and Remembrance at the beginning of November. This is a service during which we remember and give thanks to God for loved ones who have died. There is an opportunity to light a candle in remembrance.

Everyone who has arranged a funeral, or the burial of ashes, through our churches will receive an invitation to this service for 3 years, but anyone is welcome to attend.

In the week before Christmas we hold a Blue Christmas Service. This is a quiet reflective service for anyone who finds rejoicing difficult; there is an opportunity to light candles at this service too.
